BWL to Continue Full Steam Ahead Project Downtown
The next phase to the Lansing Board of Water & Light’s Full Steam Ahead will begin on Monday, August 15. The BWL will be reconstructing a steam manhole located at the intersection of Walnut Street and Allegan Street in Downtown Lansing. The work is expected to be completed by November 1.
Allegan Street and Walnut Street will remain open during the duration of the work. Traffic shifts and lane reductions will be posted. Motorists should expect delays.
The BWL maintains approximately 9.7 miles of underground steam piping with some pipes dating back to the 1920’s. The BWL is implementing a strategic plan to modernize the entire steam system to ensure its long-term sustainability.
